Hi,
Without Server security in mind the following has been done.
Wrote a speech fetcher for the server, that handles converting text to
speech.
Got it to work.
What needs to be done.
For some reason using LAME it gets stuck, while tring to encode. It is
probablyan Apache problem.
Thanks,
Alex,

Hi Alex,
Have successfully setup the eSpeak for WA?
I have been tortured by the Festival server for some time. It
doesn't always work as I expected. I need to restart Apache again
and again.
So now I want to setup eSpeak server to replace it. Could you please
tell me what you have done? Thanks a lot!
Best wishes!

I don't understand that value quite much. But it seems can be
ignored. I didn't specify in my Ekho TTS's gen_sound.php. You can
refer following code as a simpler example.

Hi,
Ok,
That would be fine.
However, in the cod Jeff gave me to work with it requires two
variables be passed to the subrouteen so that it will return a file.
One is the Miliseconds of the file. What can I use as a safe
temporary value.
Thanks,
Alex,

I haven't thought much about security of Web server. But this is
not the only place we use system() command. In gen_sound.pl of
Festival, we execute sox to generate MP3 file.

Hi,
What I am scared of is allowing unauthorized access to the system()
command.
Thanks for listening,

Hi Alex,
First, confirm that whether your espeak.cgi works by browsing
`http://localhost/.../espeak.cgi?text="hello" You should get a
dialog of open/save
file espeak.mp3 or a player that plays the audio.
Second, deploy espeak to WA. You should try to deplay Festival
first. You may get
some error log from apache (the path is similar to /var/log/
apache2/error.log). If
Festival TTS can work on your server, that means you get right
apache configuration.
You can try deploying eSpeak TTS server. I have updated a Install
guide these days.
You don't need to look into my Perl binding for eSpeak
temporarily. you could call
espeak with `system` now. My Perl binding is needed only when you
want to improve
efficiency.
Best regards!
