Another possibility: What if we embedded a FLOSS OCR library in OOo? This would be great to say "not only do we export to PDF, but we import TIFFs as text!". To this end I've looked up GOCR/JOCR and I think this could be easily integrated with OpenOffice.org. Check out http://jocr.sourceforge.net/ As we imbed it we might want to make an API of sorts for OCR to connect to... Make it easy to 'integrate' OCR software with OOo. Note, this is definately too late to get this included in 2.0 (I think. That'd be great if it was easy enough to do though... I wish I had more time)
