Some users have commented that the LPSolver is actually better
than the MS Excel one, but I have never used either.

There is a solver "plugin" available for Linux, and shortly
other platforms also, which emulates, and sometimes outperforms,
the MS Excel Solver software. Have a look at LPSolver here:
