Dear OpenOffice Team, I hope this is the correct email-address for my topic. First congratulations for your huge openoffice-project, I am a fan of open source. My english is not very good but I try my best.
OpenOffice_html formats the source code of a html-document. In my opinion this is not suitable because I have to check the source code after creating the html-page. e.g.
When you open a new html_document, the source code already includes <BODY LANG="de-DE" DIR="LTR"> <P><BR><BR> </P> </BODY>
when you put a table into this website, the source code is <TABLE WIDTH=100% BORDER=1 CELLPADDING=4 CELLSPACING=3 STYLE="page-break-before: always"> <COL WIDTH=128*> <COL WIDTH=128*> <THEAD> <TR VALIGN=TOP> <TH WIDTH=50%> <P><BR> </P> </TH> <TH WIDTH=50%> <P><BR> </P> </TH> </TR> </THEAD> <TBODY> <TR VALIGN=TOP> <TD WIDTH=50%> <P><BR> </P> </TD> <TD WIDTH=50%> <P><BR> </P> </TD> </TR> </TBODY> </TABLE>
Why are there so many tags already formated? Every field contains <P><BR></P> why? When I like to create a website, I also want to specify my own content and format. Why do the body_tag contains LANG="de-DE" DIR="LTR", why the tr_tag valign=top, why the td_tag width=50%.......? When I delete the above mentioned return to design-mode an turn again to source-mode all formats are there again. I mean, when I delete something I don't want them back. Please let me tell you that MS Frontpage is doing the same... creating it's own format. I can't believe that this is wanted by many users. By the way, i am not sure but I think the W3C correct tag_formats should have "" e.g. instead of width=50% it should be width="50%", is this true?
My suggestion, create an option where I can choose: With or without automatically formating. Or does exist already this option? I haven't found it until now.
I hope you understand my english. Important is that I want to thank you very much for creating this software.

Your English is easy to understand, Uwe. I am also very frustrated with the HTML editor of OOo. I have repeatedly expressed these frustrations on this and the users list as well as filing bug reports, but have received several answers that lead me to believe that the HTML editor is an abandoned project in OOo, and will never be improved. If I want it to be better, I need to learn to program and fix it myself. For the present, I am obliged to do my HTML editing with a text-mode editor, which will never reformat my code and has the nice feature of suggesting code completion and syntax checking for me. I can switch to a GUI preview of the page, but have to do my editing in text mode.
The program is called AceHTML Pro, and is available at http://software.visicommedia.com/en/products/
