What is unclear about a list of styles being called the Stylist.

It was very unclear to *me*. It is difficult to explain why any given thing is unclear, but this one was to me. It's easier to explain why "Styles and Formatting" would be better. It's descriptive. I don't feel I have to learn a new term. And it doesn't depend as much on previous knowledge of what a style is because it also has the word "formatting" there.

It just concerns me that people are going to think that if they pull that up they are going to be able to quickly change the formatting of a small selection of text.

They will run into styles which are not what people are used to and we are going to get people confused about changing just a selection of words. Telling them to set up and use a character styles is going to be new and confusing to them. Just calling it Styles would make more sense, IMO. I'm probably wrong.

Further, I want to know the rationale, I fear it is another one of these, everyone else calls it this so we should.

Who else has it?

MS Word uses that terminology for its styles system. This, from what I gather, is the main reason for choosing that particular UI string.

I think this is a silly reason to change. If there are valid reason for a change fine. However, we are told that there aren't enough developers and the project has been delayed. If this is true, why are changing things that aren't broken?

1) Changing it *back* will cause delays.

True, and it won't be changed back. I assume that most of my critiques of 2.0 will be ignored and tossed to the side, but I feel a need to voice them. On this one, there are like 120+ votes for the issue, so there are others that don't like the change.

This change, however, is not nearly as significant as the File Title and cursor position.

2) Many of the changes are about usability. Usability is important. It's about making the software easier to figure out, and easier to learn.

For example, I now find it SOOOO much easier to find the location of the Styles and Formatting button than I did before with the Stylist. Was the old location "broken"? I don't know if I'd say that, but its certainly better now. Not to mention that the new location helps emphasize its function.

For me, I never used the button, I removed it from the 1.9.x toolbars. I always use F11. That's not really relevant.

Just to point out.

Here is a brief list:
<http://oooauthors.org/groups/authors/userguide2/resources/ui_string_changes>

There is a better list somewhere on the OOo site, but I don't remember where.

The most complete list available is *also* in the OOoAuthors page. It's in the same folder as the on eyou linked to.

Thanks.
