Hi Christian, All, THe HP iCommunity in Limpopo has by all accounts been a roaring success in terms of how appropriate use of Free and Open Source Software can benefit a community and the local economy.
The number of success stories coming out of the community, both in respect of individual and small business progress, have been numerous. A lot of these stories are "human interest" with individuals and teams being empowered by the use of the newly available technology. Examples include disabled people now having access to technology and improving their opportunities through it. Successful small farming businesses using technology to manage and improve crop yield and quality. The identification and training of people who have shown great potential in programming. Whilst OOo is not specifically mentioned, HP did fund the translation of OOo specifically for this project. For those that do not know, the HP-441 uses Mandrake as the OS. Kindest Regards Craig A.
