I assume you are talking about StarOffice5.2, right? SO5.2 was able to use registered Netscape plugins fullsize in an MDI window. Even if you consider this as useful (I don't) there's a new situation in OOo and newer versions of StarOffice: they don't support MDI, and I don't see the point in having a plugin opened as a standalone system window inside the OOo process, it will look the same as if you open the PDF with the external viewer, but adds additional complexity.
