Please note that using those "applications" doesn't help in OOo1.x, but
it will work in OOo2.0 (as mentioned by myself several times). So please
read my comment about "the way to go" (as quoted above) as a description
of the next OOo release. The current version has definitely a defect here.

By using the swriter, scalc etc. applications for system registration of
file type (extensions on Windows, MimeTypes on Linux) most of the
problems mentioned here will go away. For the remaining problems I agree
with Lars that we need some data about "normal" users, otherwise our
discussion will go around in circles (IMHO it already does).
