There's been some work done to make the linux RealPlayer work with the linux OpenOffice, see:

One possible way of doing this would be to add a capability to OO Impress to export a presentation as SMIL -- SMIL is a W3C standard supported by RealPlayer and Helix Player.
For #2 would the gallery serve your purpose? I haven't really followed the thread, but it can show you a lot of different multimedia formats you can drag right into a document.
