Sorry for the defensiveness.
np -it's cool.
That was there in 1.1.4 wasn't it? I guess I was confused, because I don't see anything different. You mean the little dropdown arrow next to the new file button?
yeah - it was. I just never noticed it before. My bad. But it does speak of the effectiveness of proper UI. The reason I noticed it was threefold.
1) They got rid of the URL bar (which, despite other's learned and valuable opinions to the contrary, I still think it a stupid waste of space) - so the icon was more prominent, and was in the location of where the "new" button is *supposed* to be.
2) They moved the drop-down menu button arrow thingy over and made it more distinct from the other icon. This made me notice that I could do that (open a men with it) instead of just having the arrow blend-in with the rest of the icon.
3) The new mode icons are more colorful than the old icons - they are also distinctive rather than looking like every other document icon ever made. The little birds let me know it's OOo, and the rest of the thing lets me know what mode it is. (Although I *STILL* can't figure out what the heck a starfish has to do with HTML - anybody???)
So because I *Saw* that icon, and *noticed* it was new (or at least *looked* new) - I used it, and I like it a lot.
One suggestion, and I'll offer it here before submitting a IZ, just to see what people think - Should it say "spreadsheet" or "Calc" - "text document" or "Writer" .... And why isn't there a "Math" button???
Sorry. I hate e-mail. You are still my favorite MS plant. :)
Thanks. It doesn't help that I really can be mean sometimes - and so it's hard to tell who I'm yelling at, and who I'm talking to. So sorry about the confusion on my end as well.
On a weird note - I came home the other day, and there was a message on my machine - *FROM MICROSOFT* - thanking me for being one of their "PARTNERS" and offering me discounts on their software, and even gave me the url to get it - and it's a real Microsoft page - not some spoof or phishing or pharming - I mean, you can't do that stuff over the phone. It was a real MS site (as in, it started with http://www.microsoft.com/)... Freaky. Maybe they are thanking me for my years of service - or, maybe it was a wrong number - or maybe it was because I signed up to download the RTM version of SP2 before it was released to the public.... Yeah - it's probably that last one....
