RD: That of course fixed it. I think this is a case of a default being
changed that should have been left alone! All previous releases of OOo
had the [do not split paragraphs] unchecked by default. To avoid really
confusing most newbies I think that this should be set back to that
behavior for the next release, 1.9.whatever, and all further releases.
Just my opinion, but I bet a lot of others share it.
Your implicit assumption is that the default was changed. As far as I can
tell, it wasn't. I have been using the pre-release copies for some time, and
I've always had that box un-checked. So has, AFAICT, everyone else in the
OOoAuthors team who has been writing the user guide for OOo 2.0.
The problem seems to have been in your installation.

RD: It *WAS* changed with *this* particular copy of 1.9.87 that I
downloaded about a week ago. Your guess is a good as mine as to how the
1.9.87 that was on the Canada Cygnal FTP mirror ended up that way. I
have downloaded many copies of OOo over the last couple of years, I
upgrade about every time that I hear on this list that there is a new
version worth upgrading to, and I have* never* seen another one set up
this way before.
