Please provide the mysql version as the latest mysql doesn't work correctly usually. MySQL 5 and others start using stored procedure but also change the user authentication causing some disruptions on some web applications and general login-password handling (password hashing) as you can see on this MySQL technote. http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/mysql4-1.htm
