OK you have me foxed. Where are the specialist user created dictionaries stored?

I thought I had it worked out with 1.4 - in "programs-OO-users-dictionaries" or
something of that ilk (I am talking about WindowsXP here you understand)

I have found something similar in 2 beta though now it is "Program
files-oo-share-wordbook" --- I THINK.

It seems to work if I put my dict files in there, in En-US, (even though I am
on En-UK) and they do show up, at least after a re-start.)

But there is another file for dictionaries in "share".

And looking at any of the user created text files in En_US I cannot find the words I have stored away inside them.

Maybe they don't show as text anyway or maybe they are stored somewhere else.

Anyway my discussion point is this - can there be an easier way to backup
dictionary files? It takes a lot of effort to built them up (I use several
categories - proper names - my own industry - geographic places etc ) and when
I occasionally need to do a clean install or otherwide lose data I have to
start all over (Idon't blame Win particularly here - it is usually hardware or
my own fault for messing around with the disc partitions or something [not
always but usually] ) .

It is hard enough remembering to back up all kinds of things (email rules from
OE is an especial hassle).

IN OOo I can do it by copying those En_US files I think and replacing them.

But an easy way to back up and reload dictionaries (and templates which I have
not worked out yet) would be ideal, especially as most people will not navigate
around in program files etc.

Maybe there is, and someone will tell me.

And above all again, thanks for the programme anyway.

Adrian

I think they are in

C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org\OOo1.1.3\user\wordbook\*.dic.

One way to check is to add a word and then search by modified time.
