I'm sorry that i cannot answer your question above. since I have never used any collaboration features of microsoft office (I have infact never used any MS office version above 95, and that was in school)
My understanding is that it lets two people edit the same file and resolve the conflicts. But how does that differ from OOo's "compare document" feature? Do they provide file history in the sense of CVS? That is, the ability to go back in time to previous versions of the file.
this probably refers to management of changes/comments.
a lot of people are used to some of features that oo.org unfortunately does not yet have :
1. ability to comment a block of text (with markers that show where comment starts/ends0;
2. ability to display and print comments alongside of text (you don't have to hover your mose over that small yellow rectangle ;) ).
thisis done by resizing page (so that layout does not change) and putting bubbles with lead lines to indicate which section comment refers to.
it's the same with changes (change is shown besides text, for example "Deleted : urf" or "Formatting : <something>")
this way you don't have to guess which line comment refers to in page 67 when document with comments is printed.
there are a couple of issues regarding this functionality - i really hope this can be done in near future, as lately this has become most visible advantage of msoffice
