This messages has two purposes: 1. To find out if other people have found or know of uses for Writer's conditional styles.
Having conditionnal styles allow you to group them in one that will
apply in a special context. So you can have a header+table+language
style into your style named i.e Conditional1 that apply for a special part of your document.
2. To bounce ideas for possible request(s) for enhancement.
Current uses of conditional styles: -----------------------------------
Bruce Byfield in his article, http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7634 (my paraphrasing) describes using conditional paragraph styles for changing the paragraph style for different numbering levels.
Does anyone know of any other other uses for conditional paragraph styles?

In OOo1.9.91 help about conditional styles:
The Paragraph Style applied to the context is used when exporting to other formats (RTF, HTML, and so on).
Is anyone able to expand upon this? Is exporting the main reason for conditional styles existence?
I use them for writing bilingual or trilingual reports that have special presentations for each language part and of course use a different spell checker.
I'm sorry I've not time currently to help explaining this in details (that will be in my books but in French :( , I've seen that OOoAuthors was asking for more information too, I'll try to help them as soon as I can.
Bouncing ideas: --------------- In addition to the current possible conditions, to me, it would be useful if there were conditions like:
* The following or preceding style An example of where this would be useful is in lists. So that using one conditional style, you could apply a style for when the next style is the same style (e.g. keep with next) and a different style if the following style is different.
I need to try what you say to understand it plainly.
* The language locale An example of where conditional page and paragraph styles being useful would include having a condition based on language locale to potentially get around some of the problems with A4 versus letter sized paper.
the issue I see here is for printer, they will get lost when printing the document ;)
* The output medium (printer, screen size, presentation, web page,
sound, ...)
Using this approach it would be possible to have the one document but have it accessible from many different mediums. I see no reason why a document shouldn't be able to have styles for sound, e.g. Heading 1 = loud, deep, male voice; body text = conversation level, typical, female voice; Character Emphasis = louder and slower ...
