Did you try whether the problem is solved in a more recent version?
1.9.79 is a quite old one, and also not very reliable.. I assume you
didn't create an explicit backup of that file (otherwise you'd simply
had restored it), but maybe you had the backup copy activated under
menu Tools.Options.Office.Load/Save.General and a copy of the last good
version may be found in the Backups path specified under
Tools.Options.Office.Paths

Which is too general.. sounds like either the file is severely broken or
there are access rights problems with the directory or the file.

OpenDocument files are zip containers, if nothing else helps you could
try to unzip the file and access the content.xml file.
