When is openoffice going to have a calendar function, similar to that in
Outlook.
A calendar function does not belong in an office suite. Despite what
Microsoft might want you to believe, calendars, PIM, email etc are
communication tools, not document creation tools. If you need a
calendar, PIM, email, etc, I hope you will consider using Mozilla
Thunderbird.

I would like to rid myself of Microsoft Office, but until there is an
alternative for all the functions provided, then I cannot.
MS Office does not have all the functions that /we/ provide. For
example, they don't provide a vector graphics drawing program. Other
features are not as good (styles, file reliability, etc). Does that mean
that MS Office is not unusable?
You should look for a combination of software packages that meets your
needs. Not a single program that does everything.
Cheers,
Daniel.
