Thanks! I like it when I succeed to synthesize and expose in an
organized manner many bits of info that where scattered here and there
before. I hope this was one of those cases.

1) I have no Windows, Mac, Solaris or other platforms available, only
Linux. Therefore I can check some things directly only in that
   case.

2) The problems of mine which prompted me to investigate this are on
   Linux.

3) Almost all Gnu/Linux desktop distributions *have* a system-wide,
unified way to install and upgrade software. This is what makes
them (integrated) distributions. Everything trying to work on its
own is then a problem for them. Mac and Windows, I'm told, have
nothing like that, or much less of it anyway, so on those platforms
OO.o, Firefox and other autarchical tools are not a troublesome
   exception.

Note that several things in the article have nothing to be decided at
OO.o level. See what I write about the independent, occasional
contributor of a macro or two. He might not pass at all through the
OO.o development community, so whatever they decide would not (could
not) bind him. But he most not even use Linux, or package for it.

All it is asked, and OO.o has nothing to do with it, it comes from the
nature of Gnu/Linux distros, is to *also* make available online his
templates, macros or whatever, in a certain format.

You're welcome. Please spread the word to all OO.o users and
contributors.

Ciao,
        Marco
