I'm using OOo 1.9.104 on MSWXP SP2. I don't see email listed under
Options->Internet. I guess OOo is using the default OS email program.
In OOo Writer, I opened a doc and tried File->Send->Document As Email.
Thunderbird compose started with the document as an attachment.
