No. You can set it as any language that you are not using. It should also work, now, with ANY which obviates the need to assign it to another lang. Just found out about this the other day. I'll have to look it up. Maybe someone has it at hand.

looking at the available.lst file that DicOOo uses, la.zip is still bound to it IT

using ANY, as i did for esperanto, works only if the language is listed in the dropdown of the UI (ie, the Local la ANY is allowed)

reading again the file i think i messed some things
ia,ANY,ia_ANY,Interlingua (ANY locale),ia_ANY.zip --> ok
it,IT,la,Latin (for x-register),la.zip --> latin bound to it (is it still used ?)
