That's bitten me and I alway now run alien in a sub-directory of /tmp.
I didn't know I was running "alien"! What's that? But, yes I did
untar into tmp, but I cd'd into a subdir called RPMS before executing
"rpm -i ...". I expected there to be a subdirectory with the tar
contents in it, but there was none. I'll check from now on, though.
Man, I'm glad I got that fixed so easily, though! I was worried for a
while, being a relative novice.
