Generally in the open source universe it is considered a good practice to make your tool/project do what it does very very well, and to cooperate with those other tools that do what they do very well. For this reason there is no time management nor email component in OpenOffice.org. And this is why there is no document searching component. There are several open source document/content management systems available, have a look at plone.org or cps-project.org for two examples.
