Hello,
I'd like you to add a couple of things to the suite, in particular:
1 - the possibility to save database files, created with OOOBase, directly in
all the external supported database formats (e.g. DBase, M$Access, MySQL, ..)
This is already possible. Using the right driver, you can already change
*data* in Access and other database formats. You'll never be able to
save things like forms or reports in Access though. While it's
technically possible to reverse-engineer the Access formats, it's far
too much work for too little gain.
2 - the possibility to edit PDF files. You could start with minimal editing
functions like underlining text, changing text background colour and adding
freehand drawing capabilities. Of course it must be possible to save the
modified pdf into pdf format once again.
This one gets discussed regularly. PDF is not a document type that you
can edit. Think of it as an image type. When you save something to PDF,
everything gets converted to printer-friendly instructions on how to
*print* the document. You can't take those instructions and turn them
back into a highly-structured format. It's like cracking an egg, frying
it, and asking someone to reconstruct the egg for you. The best you can
do is treat the PDF file like an image file, and do Optical Character
Recognition on it, and this is also far from perfect.
Use OpenOffice's native format for all your files. When you have to send
your file to someone who has to *read* it, export it to PDF and send
them the PDF. When you have to send your file to someone who has to
*edit* it, either get them to install OpenOffice, or export the file to
MS Office format and send that to them.
