Just need to receive the live > CD. > > Chris Hi Chris, not sure whether this is somewhat beyond the scope of this group (certainly beyond the scope of this subject:), but if you've got access to a broadband connection I would download kanotix and try it out. Nice, easily configurable, excellent hardware recognition etc. I am running Suse 9.3 (also free) which, as far as I am concerned, is the next best thing to sliced bread (it's got the ultimate graphical installation and administration tool available under linux). As to your programmes - who knows? Since I do not know which ones you use it is a bit hard to say. Likelihood is that most of them have an open source alternative. If not, there is always wine - an emulator with which I get the one windows programme running that I haven't found a suitable alternative for yet: DVD Shrink. Anyway, most people have both Linux and Windows on their machines - I did for a while until I realised that I didn't want to bother with win anymore. If you have any more questions about distributions/double booting think about the following first: * what do I need Linux for (in broad terms such as games, office, multimedia...)? * which windows programmes can I not do without?
