Hello John & Ian!

I am sure a dictionary like this would be appreciated by the OpenOffice community and help to extend it's (OOo) use by PR folk as well as regular folk sending out Press Releases.

John you could make this your project since you are knowledgeable about this. As Ian indicated it does not take special coding to do this. There is probably a list of words somewhere as they are used by the Associated Press. These could be placed into a Customized dictionary where these words were changed for AP use (called something like "en_APdictionary") and which you could share with the community.

You may want to take a look at,.

Please consider doing this and placing a note here so that folks will know it is available. As I indicated above, I am sure the OOo community would appreciate it. :-)

I am a major in journalism. AP style (Associated
Press) is the style of writing for my profession. I
would love to see OpenOffice to have an option that
allows for the spell check to automatically use AP
style. For example, variations of spelling in everyday
use and how it is spelled in AP style are as follows:

Spelling:

1) Email - normal everyday use

    E-mail - Associated press style

2) Brand new - normal everyday use
Brand-new - Associated Press style

For more examples, see the Associated Press Stylebook

Go to tools and auto correct. Put the words you want to replace eg E
mail in the replace column and the AP style word in the with column.
Voila. You don't need anyone to do any coding.
