Hello Ian,
I'm very surprized to learn that this consortium has been founded by the
OASIS consortium? (see:
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/applications/0,39020384,39228251,00.htm)
Is this true?
The article says it was founded by /members/ of...
And as it happens some times in news, they goofed a bit in that they
summarized "OASIS TC" (ie. the guys who wrote up the specification) to
just "OASIS" (which conveys a different message). Gary Edwards is one of
the founders, and he is in the OASIS TC.
Because I think that it's important to stress that this Fellowship is a
purely private initiative, such as spreadopendocument.org, or
friendsofopendocument.org .
I'm not sure of what you mean by "private initiative". How do you know
that this Fellowship is "private"?
In this regard, it is right to explain to the public that if they wish
to donate to this consortium, it will be a donation to a private group,
not to, for instance, the OpenOffice.org's project, for instance.
I doubt that anyone would think that a donation to the Fellowship would
go to OpenOffice.org, since OOo isn't mentioned on the press release, or
anywhere really prominent on the website. OOo is listed among the
applications that support OpenDocument natively.
Cheers,
Daniel.
