I don't know if this is a problem or a coincidence but the following happened to me: I have been using the latest Beta release of OpenOffice under WinXP with no problem. I just downloaded the Release version 2 and my video went nuts when I rebooted the computer. I was very fortunate to get into safe mode and go to the previous good configuration which removed version 2. Upon Rebooting, my video worked fine. I don't know if this is significant or not but I decided to send this on to you.
