Good News! I solved the problem by downloading the bit torrent Windows X86 version of Open Office. The "regular" 2.0 OO version for Windows(green button)l will not install under Windows X64. But if you go down a little bit on the Open Office download page, you will see a Windows X86 version down loadable through Bit Torrent. The download will go much faster if you install the Beta version of the Bit Torrent.

Open Office has now installed under Windows XP64 -- everything looks fine. If I encounter a problem, I will surely let you guys know. Thank you again.

Potentially... but just to check, have you done the MD5 check on the
OOo download to make sure that it is not corrupt?
