The Debian repositories now have OpenOffice.org 2.0. It may take a day or two for mirrors to have the files, so anybody who wants to use them right away should add an official Debian repository to /etc/apt/sources.list. This source worked for me:
deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main The official Debian packages are preferable to using alien to convert the rpm packages for two reasons: They are integrated into the operating system better, and don't generate error messages when saving files, and they are built with GCJ, making them a free version of OpenOffice.org with all the Java-based features enabled. As I expected, the Java-based features are slow, but they do work. To be honest, I didn't expect to see the packages ready for a couple of weeks. Speaking only for myself, thanks to the Debian OOo team for acting so quickly, and for supplying what the general OOo project would not. -- Bruce Byfield 604-421.7177 http://members.axion.net/~bbyfield --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
