Is this really? If this is really the case, then *this* is the real problem, not so much that language selection is implemented via styles. Coming from WordPerfect, whose style management is absolutely tops, I always assumed character styles where 'transparent' to each other, and that you could apply two or more of them to the same text, and the finaly result was a superposition of the properties.
