Just because Writely uses .NET doesn't mean Microsoft gets anything out of
it. .NET can be developed without giving MS a dime.

The point is, Writely, Google, et. al. are offering services online that
previously you had to have Windows and Office to use. In fact, the new
"Windows Live" - http://www.live.com/ - is a complete rip off of
Personalized Google - http://www.google.com/ig/ .

After looking more carefully at the Office Live website, It seems that they
are not going to provide an online version of Office (as the name would
suggest) but a set of online applications, as well as a hosted website, for
businesses, that intregrates with Microsoft Office software.

This actually goes back to my request for a blogger button on OOoWriter.

Maybe you wouldn't but a lot of people would. As evidenced by the success of
.Mac, Blogger, Gmail, Writely, Flickr, and other online storage/service
sites.

Being able to get to may data, no matter where I am, what computer I use,
what OS it's running, what software it does or doesn't have... That's very
attractive. As long as the data is sercure, and all I need is an Internet
connection, user name and password to get to my data, it sounds like a
winner to me.

Of course, I won't keep *everything* online, but there are some things I'd
like to have access to no matter what.
