Nice try at changing the subject. Critique cannot be dismissed as bashing simply because one dislikes it, especially if that critique is well founded and based on well-deocumented data including court decisions.

The problem here is that the maker of the main competitor to OOo has achieved and maintains market dominance mostly through illegal means, seasoned with a good does of unethical business practices. Most of it is centered around maintaining and abusing the monopoly on desktop operating systems.

Most people are honest and would prefer, if given the chance to make an informed decision, to choose vendors and software that operate legally and ethically. The unwillingness or inability for MS to operate legally, ethically or even adhere to technical standards is something that would help OOo marketing greatly if brought into the daylight.

Also, divesting Microsoft and its products, would steer people back to software of a much higher quality, both open and closed source. That in turn would leave more time and money for businesses, organizations, institutions and agencies to put into their core competencies. With all the economic damage that MS and Gates have done globally to the IT sector and to non-IT businesses or organizations which just happend to use computers, a strong argument can be made that MS is the Al Qaida of the Internet.

So from a marketing perspective, what will people prefer if given a chance to make an informed decision, software that gives them freedom and control (OOo) or the Al Qaida of the Internet (MS) ?

Software patents endanger the legal certainty of software.
Keep them out of the EU by writing your MEP, keep the market open.
