I've been using an open source information manager application for quite a while now, but I've been having difficulty getting it to work in Linux/wine. The program, keynote, saves a collection of rtf files as a single file, something like a master document in openoffice.
Since running Linux, I've changed from Keynote to Tuxcards (http://www.tuxcards.de/). This program is similar (rich text with a tree structure), but lacks the tabs along the top. I've found it similar enough, and use it regularly.
A similar (but commercial) Windows program that I used was Treepad (www.treepad.com). This does work under Wine, and a Linux version exists and is being improved upon.
Another Linux program, Kdissert (http://www.freehackers.org/~tnagy/kdissert/), is a mind mapping program with an outline view on the left hand side. It functions quite differently, but might interest you.
Alternatively, a commercial program called win4lin (www.win4lin.com) will allow you to run Windows under Linux. I have successfully run Keynote using win4lin. A commercial version of Wine called Crossover Office may also give you more luck.
Finally, on the Keynote forum there is the following discussion about running Keynote under Linux. It may be helpful.
