Daniel:

I may be missing something, but what advantage does converting to .tgz
give you? If you convert the standard .rpms to .debs, then they still
install to the /opt directory. It's only if you use the .debs produced
by Debian that they install elsewhere. Seems to me that use .tgz makes
them harder to manage.
