Dear Open Office Team
You have done an outstanding job in setting up Open Office
2.0.2. I am promoting Open Office to everyone I come into contact with and
am loading it on every PC that I supply.
There is one addition I would like to see with regard to the
Open Office suite. The database module that was new to Open Office 2.0 is a
tremendous asset and is user friendly. The final essential in my mind that
Open Office lacks in order to make a smooth and complete transition away
from the costly Microsoft Office package is an Outlook equivalent which will
handle notes, tasks, mail, contacts, and most importantly a calendar for
appointments and scheduling (all in one module). Moreover, for those of us
who are using PDAs it is important that a PDA version be released that we
can install onto our handheld device and which will allow for
synchronization between PC and handheld. Of course, this will mean the
development of a synchronization app for the handheld device as well as
activesync is a Microsoft app and will therefore probably not work for
synchronizing Open Office. One more thing, in the Outlook equivalent
module, please build a synchronization facility in that will allow the PC to
by synchronized not only with a PDA (as activesync allows for), but that
will also allow PC to laptop or PC to PC synchronization. This is a feature
that is even missing in the Microsoft package and one has to rely on a third
party software vendor to supply this lack. It would be a major step ahead
of Microsoft if Open Office had PC to PC or PC to laptop synchronization
facilities built into it.
In summary, I hope to see in the near future the following
addition to the Open Office suite:
1. Outlook equivalent to handle calendar appointments, contacts,
e-mail, tasks, and notes.
2. Outlook equivalent for PDA
3. Synchronisation ability for the Outlook Equivalent between PC and
handheld device
4. Synchronisation ability for Outlook Equivalent between PC and PC or
PC and Laptop.
Keep up the great work!
Sincerely,
Adrian Webster
