"Final released version" is better. Or "officially released" version. In my
case, I have downloaded the "officially released version" from the OO
download page.

EVEN STRANGER:
The menu option "Check for Updates" APPEARS when I open an Excel, Draw, or
Impress document but the menu option does NOT appear when I open a Writer
doc. Why?
