Pls explain. It's not clear to me.
Do you mean if OpenOffice.org is able to handle Word documents? Or
that OOo is able to handle Works documents?
Why would anyone pay money for Works anyway? Ok, ignorance. OOo is
more compatible with MSO than MS Works is, a lot more powerful and
free. Perhaps the marketing project should target Works users to
upgrade to OOo.

I don't think anyone BUYS Works, do they? They get it free if they buy
a Dell, for instance. Back in 1999, when I bought my Dell, I got Works
with Word 97 included. This year when we bought a Dell laptop for my
wife it included Works, but no Word included. So she has to use the
Star Office 8 that the Open University gave her. I, of course, use OOo
2.0.3 from choice. But it is a good idea to target those people who get
Works 'free', with the idea that they can get a proper office suite without
paying any more.
However, I gather OOo doesn't open Works documents. I suppose, for
text documents, they can be saved to RTF and imported like that into
OOo, but spreadsheets with formulae in them would be a problem.
Tony
People do buy Works in the form of Works Suite, because it is a package
deal that includes Microsoft Word plus the Encarta Encyclopedia and a
lot of other stuff for a lower price than Microsoft sells Word for by
itself. So it is like M$ will sell you a copy of Word at a discount if
you are willing to take Works with it.
