That is true for space at the end of a paragraph. Not for spaces when a
new line starts automatically when a word is placed on the next line. In
that case one or more space between words are not shown as '.' .
I never realy felt this as a problem, but Stefan probably does.
He's not alone! It seems anomalous to permit the display of non-printing
spaces, EXCEPT where an automatic line break occurs. The space(s) is/are
significant, for example when subsequent editing moves the position of
the line break.
I can't see this being treated as a major issue and being fixed in the
immediate future, but then again it is probably a trivial fix so I have
raised a hopeful issue: 68086
