Dear Fausto,
Thanks for your interest in OpenOffice.org ....

I am writing to you because I would like to know if you are planning to
improve the macro feature of Open Office.
I must confess I am really fed up with Windows, nonetheless I am forced
to use it and MS Word because I have written many macros that are
helping me in my work (translations and DTP).
Rumors say that the macro language is much slower in Open Office, apart
from the fact that I should rewrite all the VBA macros.
Good to read that you must be motivated to check the rumours: how 'slow'
are OpenOffice.org macro's? And how much of VBA do you have to rewrite?
I come from a same situation as you do. And I promise: the first start
is not so easy. But after a while, you will definitely find your way
quick enough to make really powerfull macro's.
But I'll do it if your plans are in strenghtening this aspect of your
suite. As a matter of fact, I think that the possibility of writing
modules and macros in MS Word has contributed markedly to its diffusion.
It's time to change, isn't it?
Indeed. For a start have a look at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Extensions_development_basic
and http://api.openoffice.org/
and http://documentation.openoffice.org/
Part of the VBA Macro's must be rewritten. However, StarOffice ships
with a macro migration tools and Novell's OOo supports Excel macro's a
good deal.
Kindest Regards,
Cor
