To whom it may concern;
I have recovered Word/Excel 2000 sp3 files - some would not open, some
even locked up the application.
(so far I have not found a corrupted MS word/excel file that Open
Office did not fix/recover)
I also noted, that when I saved from OpenOffice 2.0.1, the resulting
.doc and .xls files were smaller.
example size comparisons

MS vs OOo
2.5 MB down to 1MB
19KB down to 9KB
159KB down to 147KB
I recently installed OOo 2.0.3 - and now I'm actually seeing file size
INCREASE MS file sizes, when I save.
So what might be going on?
Is there a trick saving with version 2.0.3 to .doc and .xls file types
to get the space saving results I saw with 2.0.1?
Or am I just mistaken. Was my file size reduction due to "bad" MS .doc
and .xls files?
I wonder if 2.0.1 was doing "office 97" formats and now OOo is trying
to add all the MS newer features??
If so, then I surely will keep a version of 2.0.1 just to help cleanup
and shrink our old MS files.
Thank you for any information or observations,
