It would have been faster for me to answer if you had answered in line
to each point. Please consider doing so in the future.

Said this, I am not sure I understand your comment. I have said just
that publishing ALSO the sender address *is* a good thing that can
help other users, and surely helped me: I have found several times
people mentioning in mailing list "I'll write a macro so-and-so": they
never published that macro, but were happy to share it with me when I
contacted them, and happy that their hack had been found interesting.
But I would not had had the possibility to contact them without the
list archive keeping their address.

No, this is not what I mean, sorry. I mean that it is absolutely
necessary to take step, but one must only take the ones which
accomplish something, and I don't place hiding addresses in list
archives in that category. I may be wrong, of course.

That depends from the mail client. The one I use, Mutt, has an
instruction line like this in the configuration file:

set attribution = "On %d, %n (%a) wrote:"

and I can reformat it in several ways. I guess the only help I can
give is to search for "attribution" in the documentation of your email
client, sorry.

Indeed, this particular practice doesn't happen on any other list I
know, nor it would be tolerated. I have always considered it a really
braindead and inefficient way to provide support. The archives are
full of my complaints and proposals. I had started to test a solution
but seeing no interest in it I let it drop, and have NO intention to
waste further time to push or develop it. If anybody else feels like
doing it, help yourself with the archives. and yes, this issue is off
topic, so I won't reply on it again.

Ciao,
