Yes, that works if you want an individual word underlined, but it's rather tedious if you want a long string of words underlined, but not the intervening spaces.

To the original poster's request, in my OoO v2.0, you can select a string of text, right-click, and choose "Character..." (or via menu: Format -> Character), go to the Font Effects tab, and choose the type of underline you prefer (single, double, wavy, etc.), and then tick the "Individual words" checkbox. This does the same thing as MS Word's "Words only" underlining via the Font dialog.

You can then select the text, press F11 for the Styles and Formatting dialog, and Create a New Style From Selection, and you can create a style that will accomplish this very easily.
