In lyx with gtk backend, one can easily input formula if one is familiar
with latex. And lyx displays the symbol as one inputs, so one can see
whether it is right instantly. I also like inputing formulas by keyboard
because I am familiar with latex.
oO seems like latex, but is quite different, it has its own key words. As
for me, these key words are obscure, In lyx, there is also a formula panel,
it displays some of the keyword by symbols if available instead of English
word,
for example, a fraction, one can easily understand it is a fraction even if
he(or she) does not know English.

The formula editor is the most difficult one to use.
I just spent over six months typing up formulas for a mathematics
tuition program. I tried quite a few formula editors, and chose
OpenOffice.org's. I suppose I came to the opposite conclusion that
you did!
In some sense it looks like word's formula editor, and in some
sense it looks like latex.
For me, that is one of the advantages.
I used Word's formula editor for a while, but it is strictly
mouse-only. When you are typing hundreds of formulas a day, that
becomes very tedious!
OpenOffice.org has the point and click advantage that Word has, but
as you click you also see the words and characters to type to
create the formula. So the point an click isn't just for ease of
use, it is a teaching tool for how to type the formulas. And I can
definitely say that typing formulas is significantly quicker than
constantly clicking the mouse on little buttons on a complicated
pallette.
Is there any method to input the formula as lyx-gtk does in oO?
I've tried various Lyx programs, but I'm not sure if I've tried
lyx-gtk. How does formula input work on that program, and what are
the advantages?
