I doubt that will be an issue for most people.

Why would Google be interested in my files? I barely have any interest in them.

They exist as a matter of necessity, not for my pleasure.

The authorities (and probably Google as well, for that matter) already have more information about me in their files than I have in mine.

Subscribers to OpenOffice lists, for example, seem to have no or little concern about privacy.

Probably a lot. Online apps and file storage are enough when one is
not concerned about privacy (ie Google or others knowing the content
of their files) when a very fast, cheap, flat rate internet connection
is available and when you're sure nobody is listening in the middle.
Each one of these factors is enough to make remote apps via the
Internet a no-no in all business scenarios and a lot of private ones.
