Hello!
As I see [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] to be the
relevant lists to inform about this proposal, I cross-post my mail to
these three lists.
I'd like to discuss my thoughts mainly on the more general [EMAIL PROTECTED]
list, but I'll forward the points mentioned on the other lists as not
everybody is subscribed to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

*PROPOSAL for a new incubator project: the ART PROJECT*
Established more than two years ago as subproject of the Marketing
Project, the Art Project has matured enough to be considered an
independent project. [1] [2].
Marketing has been an will ever be the main goal of OpenOffice.org
artwork. But there are more and more connecting points with other projects.
CD-Art and OEM labels are related to the Distribution Project, our
Why-Homepage may interact with the Website Project, icons are part of
the UI Project, and so on. And this is not even including the Native
Language Confederation projects...
An independent Art Project is likely to be more visible and if it is
more visible, it will appeal to more people and receive more contributions.
What is more, as a standalone project, Art would foreground the
importance of our visual identity inside and outside OpenOffice.org.
There will be no change in the specifics of our mission; rather, there
will be change in its execution: Art will be prominent and help
Marketing and other projects.

Mission
-------
We want to provide a place where you
- can get official OpenOffice.org graphics and artwork to be used inside
and outside the entire OpenOffice.org project.
- can get additional artwork as a basis for your own work.
- can share your artwork with others as part of the official or
additional repository, in English or any other language.
If you want to join us, you will have the opportunity to be part of the
group that
- works jointly on the official artwork for OpenOffice.org
- defines style guides for this artwork
- aims at an unique and consistent look of OpenOffice.org in present and
future versions as basis of our visual identity.
Best regards
Bernhard Dippold
