The quickstarter is the same application as OOo so you have to close
them both.

But there's another workaround. The behavior is not caused by OOo but
the by Windows file dialog. After you have saved your document please
open another folder in the file dialog (e.g. "my documents"). Now you
can remove the USB drive.
