You can customise OOo to mimick this.
Click the little arrow thing at the end of one of your toolbars, and
select "Customise Toolbar". Then click the "Add" button, and find the
menu item that you want ( Insert ==> Date ). That's it! You can change
the position of the button in the dialog window that's still there ( the
one with the "Add" button ). This is also where you delete buttons.
