Where do you expect that to be used? I would rate charts with 12 different series to be seldom already.
Anyhow, I would prefer to offer multiple color sets in future (see issue 4291). Then I think it would make sense that each color set can have it's individual length. And the user should be able to define the length of each color set also. Then you would be free to create your own default color set with as many colors as you usually need. Would that make sense for you?
