Hi,

First off, let me assure you that I love OpenOffice.org. I use it often and
long for it to make huge inroads in gaining users.

I am working with an organization that is creating a lot of charts that
using lots of WordArt, AutoShapes, and textboxes. We find that many
irregularities show up in working with these charts using OO.o 2.1. I am
currently testing 2.2 rc3.

I have seen, in Bugzilla reports, developers state that OO.o lacks a true
WordArt component. There are a lot of problems I encounter with WordArt
support. These have prevented my organization from migrating to OO.o.

1. The rendering of WordArt and AutoShapes is very poor -- lots of jagged
edges.
2. Oftentimes, the sizing or placement of text is a little different, even
when the document is saved with embedded fonts.
3. The UI of editing WordArt text by displaying the text, in-place and
horizontally, on top of the angled text, is difficult to read and seems
clunky. With MSWord, the text to be edited is displayed in a popup dialog.
I like this UI better.
4. I have noticed bugs with grouping and ungrouping (I will be reporting
these), where, when items are ungrouped, sometimes the placement of
graphical elements gets shuffled.

These are the main issues I've encountered.

So, does OO.o need a WordArt module, or will these issues be resolved some
other way?

Thanks!
       Miles
