This list is for OpenOffice.org, not Microsoft Office. Microsoft
Office is a commercial piece of software that you can get to most any
office store for hundreds of dollars. If you get Microsoft Office for
free, then it is stolen and illegal. OpenOffice.org is open source
and so can be freely distributed and used. It is designed by some
paid Sun Microsystems employees and other independent developers who
create the software as a volunteer effort because they believe that
software can be designed better when done through a community where
the source code is freely available. OpenOffice.org can read and
write moderately complex Microsoft Office documents as well as save
in the Open Document format which is an international standard for
office documents and the PDF format which is being submitted as a
international standard and subsets of which like PDF/A and PDF/X are
already international standards. OpenOffice.org is available for many
operating systems including Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Mac OS X,
Windows, and OS/2. You can download the Mac version which is Intel
and PowerPC native at www.OpenOffice.org. There is a more Mac like
version that doesn't require X-Windows which is a minor version or
two behind at http://download.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php
which is also Intel and PowerPC native.
